LEAN KITTING with PICK TO LIGHT technology "Optimal process at all times"

New material handling challenges are emerging for manufacturers. With a greater variety of components being brought together at the assembly line in more combinations, manufacturers need a way to build efficiently and reliably to meet customization demands

Kitting Solutions based on Pick To Light Technology allows manufacturers to optimize the production lines supply, reducing times and errors, in line with each company production flows.

Kitting is the collection of components and parts necessary for the production of a particular product.

The production control team defines kits to be prepared based on the shop floor orders while the warehouse team picks up the components from the warehouse and collects them together in a Kitting Box/Cart.  These components are then released where needed according to a takt time.

The kitting efficiency and time depends on kit size and number, but above all on the right assistance technology, Pick-to-light drives process adherence, using visual lights to guide the operator intuitively along the correct manual sequence.

Thus, assembly operators are not involved in the parts picking process any longer, and the advantages are many: more value added time by the assembly operators, fewer part selection errors, easier training,…

The priority of Pick To Light is to make the kitting process as lean as possible, an “optimal process every time”, with the aim to eliminate waste on the assembly line, by preventing machine downtime due to Kitting problems causing defects, stoppage and re-work.
